Mr. Arnold Stendahl

The son of a Norwegian seaman and a mother from Rotterdam, Arnold studied law at Erasmus University Rotterdam between 1980 and 1985, after more than ten years working in construction and shipping. There he also spent more than four years as a student assistant, research assistant and lecturer, in both research and teaching.

In 1986 he began his career as a lawyer (advocaat) in Rotterdam at one of the predecessor firms of Trenité van Doorne, first as a maritime lawyer and later as a lawyer specialising in liability and insurance law. On 1 January 2001 he joined Van Mens & Wisselink as a partner, where he headed the liability and insurance practice from the Rotterdam office. From early 2009 until September 2023 he continued his practice as a partner at MainportLawyers. Arnold joined Bavelaar Advocaten on 1 October 2023.

Since 1986 Arnold has litigated for and advised Dutch and international clients: businesses, their directors, supervisory board members and regulators. For more than thirty years he has been involved in the professional training of junior lawyers, including in litigation, court hearings and negotiation according to the Harvard method.

Arnold takes part in the meetings of the Netherlands Association of Risk & Insurance Managers (NARIM) and the European umbrella organisation FERMA. He is a member of the Dutch Association for Insurance Science (Vereniging voor Verzekeringswetenschap), the Beurs Club Technische Verzekeringen, the Rotterdamse Beurs Brand Club, the Corporate Litigation Association (Vereniging Corporate Litigation), the Dutch Arbitration Association and the Amsterdamse Beurs Brand Sociëteit.

Arnold has registered liability and insurance law as his practice area in the register of practice areas of the Dutch Bar Association (Nederlandse orde van advocaten).
